Teaching Questions.

Teaching. Why do I want to teach? What does teaching do for me? How will teaching help me in my life? Students always say that they learn best from this teacher and don’t learn anything from that teacher but what if each teacher had both inside of them? Students also say that they learn this way and not that way. Do teachers really try and help all of their students learn and understand what is being taught? Do teachers favor certain learning styles? Whats better new or old styles? What would my classroom look like when I become a teacher? What styles will I keep and which styles will I leave behind? What kind of teacher will I be?

Why Teaching?

Teaching. Why do I want to teach? What does teaching do for me? How will teaching help me in my life?

Why I want to teach is because I want to be able to say I helped grow and change the next generation. It sounds weird but I want to make a difference in school. Students always complain about the teachers and the teachers always complain about the teachers. That will never change but I feel like if teachers AND students change then there will be nothing to complain about and I feel I can do something to help both side to change.

Students always say that they learn best from this teacher and don’t learn anything from that teacher but what if each teacher had both inside of them? Students also say that they learn this way and not that way. Do teachers really try and help all of their students learn and understand what is being taught? Do teachers favor certain learning styles? I don’t know if teachers favor certain learning styles but being a senior in highschool, I have seen different teachers do different things. I had this one teacher that would take the time out of his life and make sure that each one of his students fully understood the lesson, even if that meant taking 2 every day to stay after school and teach the student one-on-one. I learned so much from that teacher because he didn’t just care about getting through the lessons. He cared about the student and how much they took in and how much stook. I feel that teachers that teach like this is the best way but some teachers don’t care like he does. Most teachers just teach the lesson and HOPE that each student got it and then they move on to the next lesson. Teachers are teaching lesson to lesson, not lesson and student. I also once had this teacher that would just suspect that each student understood what she was talking about in class. But what teachers don’t really see is that students may say that they get it in class but on the inside they are screaming because they don’t get it and their lost. Each teacher has their own style of teaching but I feel the best way for students to learn is that one-on-one teacher student relationship.

There is so much about teaching I don’t know about. I feel if I make this may PLN project that I will learn more about it and it will be something that I will really want to become and have this as a career for the rest of my life. At the same time I feel if I do make this my PLN project I will find out that this is something that I don’t want to be or have for a career for the rest of my life but at the same time I can always change my career. My career isn’t set in stone. Its up to me to find out what I love and what I want to do. I have always wanted to be a teacher but at the same time I love animals so it makes it very difficult to pick a topic to go to.

When I teach students in my classes that don’t understand and the teacher doesn’t take the time to go around and help, it makes me feel like I’m making a difference. I feel I am giving that student so hope that they will understand it and become MASTERS at it! Teaching those students that don’t understand make me feel great! I love helping little kids understand something easier. Like if its telling time and I teach them a different way to remember it then the way everybody else does, it makes me feel amazing because that little kid knows a different way from everybody else to tell time and they can tell their friends so they know that way too! Even though its very small, I can tell that I am making a difference in the students and little kids around me. It makes me feel like I am doing something important with my life and not just wasting it away.

Human. What does it mean?!

What does it means to be human? What makes us human? Why did we begin on Earth and how?

There are many different thoughts on how humans arrived on Earth but the top two are that God created man and women and the theory that humans have evolved from apes. Many people believe that God created man and women but that’s based off of faith and religion not facts. Others believe that humans have evolved from apes because humans have many characteristics that apes have and that human bones look very similar to ape bones. Also there is evidence from an english naturalist named Charles Darwin. Thats why the theory of man evolving from apes is called the Charles Darwin Theory.

I’m on both sides. I do believe that God created man and women but there are just no facts or evidence to prove it. Also I believe that man did come from apes and they just evolved over time but at the same time the question that no one can answer is where did the apes come from? People that have strong opinions on this topic tend to very much disagree with ones that don’t believe with what they believe so there is a big controversy over which side is right. Scientist still do not know which side is correct and we might never know.

I don’t know what it means to be a human. Its means different things to different people. It’s all about what you think and how you feel about it. For me it means that I was put on this place for a reason and I don’t know that reason yet but hopefully one day I will. I was always taught that everyone on planet Earth was put here for a reason and a purpose. I personally want to know what that purpose is so I can plan my life to accomplish that goal/reason. Humans have grown and evolved in the past 100 years. I think that in the next 100 years that humans will evolve and grown even more that we could ever image.

Many people believe that the human race is this awful thing and that the more time goes on the more stupid and dependent on things we get which is true. Well we’re not getting more stupid but we are getting more dependent on things like technology(cell phones, ipods, ipads, computers etc.) But back 3,000 years ago were dependent upon food, supplies and man but that was until we discovered fire. Once we discovered fire then man became less dependent on the supplies because we had on supply that could be used for many different things. I think in the present, humans take advantage of the thing we have. Like fire, water, technology etc. I wish I could visit back then to see how difficult or easy it was to live without any of those things and have to fend for myself.

Over all I don’t know what it means to be a human. Its all up to you on what it means.

School. What if it was different?

School. What if it was different? Would kids still attend or would they drop out? Would more students be the worlds next Einstein?

If school was different I feel that kids might like school more. To students now, everyday at school feels like you're doing the same thing over and over again and it will never end till the day you die. Since Its hard for me to imagine school the be any different. I have gone to two different schools that taught absolutely different and I feel that both schools have taught me different things but I have never really enjoyed school and "stored" the knowledge in my mind which was supposed to help me later on in life.  Both schools taught to do my homework, act like an adult in school and mostly be nice and respect of others but I don't think that teachers will not teach that when and if schools change but the guidelines I grew up with have changed a lot. I have learned everything I know from textbooks and my teachers.

If school changed it would be difficult for me to change because I have gotten in the "school form" and that's how I have always been taught. There are some things that need to grow or change for schools to begin to change like technology. Technology has to continue growing so schools can change. I'm not sure how school will change but the growth of technology will definitely have a large part in it. Is it good that technology is growing so much that it might change schools? I'm not sure. On one side it is great that technology has the power to change schools but on the other side its not good. Its great because some students that don't learn well from teachers or in a classroom, they could get the education and knowledge that they need and deserve. Also it's great for students that don't take test well could take it online and go as slow and careful as they need. It could be a student pace class like Web 2.0 with Mr. Steele-Maley. It wouldn't be great because the more technology grows the less the need for hardcover books will there be. Even now textbooks and hardcover books are being used less and less because one could get it online. For those students that don't learn well online then that wouldn't be great. Its the total opposite of the students that don't learn well from teachers.

I would love to see a glass-classroom that Microsoft has envisioned, that could be used around the world where students could learn about other places in the world from someone that lives there instead of learning about it from a text book. So students can have that one to one connection along side technology. Schools will have to change but not anytime soon.I'm not sure what it will look like. I'm not sure if its good for a school to change or not? I'll never know until the time comes. So I'll just have to wait.

Hollister models make slurs about Asians at South Korea opening

I read an article earlier today about how in South Korea, Hollister was opening their store and many of the male models made rude slurs about Asians. In many pictures, that haven't been released to the public, many of the male models were making "squinty eyes" at the camera. In another picture one of the male models was taking a photo with a "fan" and he was flipping the middle finger at one of the customers while the store was opening. Right away the head of Hollister fired those models and apologized to the public and mostly to South Korea for the rude behavior of their old employees. "On behalf of our more than 80,000 associates around the world who cherish our core values and our culture of diversity and inclusion, we sincerely apologize for the offense caused by these unauthorized, ill-considered actions." The article stated that Abercrombie & Fitch have been accused of favoring white salesmen. I think that is true. When have you ever seen another race, besides white, being a salesperson at one of those stores. I have seen one and that was in Ohio but I have never seen one anywhere else.

I believe that just firing those models will not do any good. What will those models learn from doing that? All they learned was that if they make rude slurs while they are working they will get fired. I'm not sure what should happen but I just feel that something more should be done.
